Twin Gear Juicer (Green Power / Green Life / Green Star)

  • What is the difference between green life and green power? What is the fruit adjusting knob? Why does the Green Life have a 3 year longer warranty?
  • Is the green life juicer good at juicing fruits? If Im juicing fruits and veggies in the green life juicer, do I need the fruit attachment?
  • What does cleaning the green power/green life/green star entail? How long does it take?
  • Do most people use the pasta or mochi attachments?
  • Do you recomend the Green Power, the Green Life or Green Star Juicer?
  • On the Green Power/Green Life machines, why do you need to use an outlet knob? (either normal or fruit attachment) I didn't use either knob for our first batch of carrot/apple juice, and it turned out just fine. Why is the special attachment used for soft fruit?
  • What is the difference between the Green Sta and Green Life Juicers?
  • The green life extractor makes nut butters I see. It seems that it would also grind flour from wheat berries or similar material?
  • What is the pasta and mochi maker?
  • Would you please itemize for me exactly what comes standard with the Green Power and the Green Life juicers?
  • Hmmm...can't figure it out, where does the pulp eject from the Green life? And into what?
  • How does a twin gear juicer work and is it better?
  • After reading, it seems like the Green Life machine is the best all around purchase with the exception of fruits. Is there a machine that answers all the needs of hard and soft fruits and vegetables. If not, will the Green life do an "o.k." job in juicing soft or should I consider purchasing an "additional" unit?
  • We attempted to make peanut butter using the homogenizing plate and got peanut powder (didn't taste real great either). . . read your FAQ about almonds getting powdered in the Green Life as well. Should we buy roasted peanuts (we had used raw) or did we do something else wrong?
  • When I juice wheatgrass with a (Green Power or Green Life), I get a lot of foam. How can I avoid this?

What is the difference between green life and green power? What is the fruit adjusting knob? Why does the Green Life have a 3 year longer warranty?
The green life is basically the same as the green power, less the pasta maker and mochi attachment (available additionally for $60). The Green Life has a 5 year warranty on the unit (2yrs on the gears and motor), and the Green Power has a 2 year warranty. The gears used in each model are identical. The both have outlet adjusting knobs. The fruit attachment takes place of the outlet adjusting knob so you don't have to "manually" adjust the outlet adjusting knob when juicing fruit. The Green Life has a longer warranty than the green power because Green Life came out at the same time as the Omega 8000 which has a 5 year warranty. The manufacturer did this to remain competitive. I believe the Green Life to be a better built machine than the Green Power.

Is the green life juicer good at juicing fruits? If Im juicing fruits and veggies in the green life juicer, do I need the fruit attachment?
We don't recommend the green life for juicing mostly fruits. Its designed to juice mostly leafy vegetables. While it will juice hard apples, (we recommend hard Fuji apples), most other soft fruits will back up the machine... Fruits have a real SOFT consistency, and will back up the machine. REASON: the green life unit REQUIRES hard fiber to push the pulp through the machine, without it, it will back up. When juicing apples, we recommend a hard apple, such as a Fuji.

If juicing fruits and veggies, you can use the normal outlet adjusting knob, and put the SOFTEST produce in first, followed by the hardest. I.E.: put in apples then the carrots and alternate them.

What does cleaning the green power/green life/green star entail? How long does it take?
There are about 7 pieces that need to get washed when washing the Green power juicer: 1. main housing 2. gear 3. other gear 4. mesh screen 5. outer housing 6. spring tensioner 7. Pusher
It takes me less than 5 minutes to clean it all up (a special brush has been included so you can get in all the hard to reach places). I use a standard bristle (vegetable) brush to clean the other parts. Depending on the person, and how finatical it takes from 3-6 minutes to clean.

Do most people use the pasta or mochi attachments?
We find that 80% of people that order the green power juicer, never use the pasta or mochi attachments. They are "additional" items, that usually never get used..

Do you recomend the Green Power, the Green Life or Green Star Juicer?
We recomend the Green Life or Green Star Machine over the Green Power. All 3 units are IDENTICAL in function, all three use the SAME TWIN gears for extracting juice. Although the Green Life and Green Star has a longer warranty, and a stronger/more compact housing.
In addition, the green star includes the pasta, mochi attachments as well as a drip tray.

On the Green Power/Green Life machines, why do you need to use an outlet knob? (either normal or fruit attachment) I didn't use either knob for our first batch of carrot/apple juice, and it turned out just fine. Why is the special attachment used for soft fruit?
The attachment for fruit (green) has a softer spring tension to allow the SOFT fruit pulp come out of the machine. If the knob is not installed the pulp may come out before time.. (thus you will have wetter pulp and less yield of juice). The normal knob (white) has a hard spring tension to allow hard veggie fiber- carrots, greens, etc to remain in the machine so it is still juiced, and will come out dryer. If juicing apples/carrots, use the white knob, and put in the apples first then the carrots (the fiber in the carrots help push the soft fiber of the apple through the machine)

What is the difference between the Green Sta and Green Life Juicers?
The newest model is the green star juicer. Its identical to the green life juicer, with a few differences.
    1. it includes the pasta maker.
    2. it includes the mochi maker.
    3. it includes a drip tray.
    4. its a shade lighter color than the green life.

    Otherwise, the machines are identical.

The green life extractor makes nut butters I see. It seems that it would also grind flour from wheat berries or similar material?
Sorry, the green life/power machines will not make flour out of grains. The spacing between the gears are not fine enough.

What is the pasta and mochi maker?
The mochi maker is used for extruding mochi (a japanese rice cake), consisting of mostly cooked rice.

The pasta attachment is used for extruding a pasta shape from dough. (It will not work with vegetables or fruit)

Would you please itemize for me exactly what comes standard with the Green Power and the Green Life juicers?
    Green Life Juicer:
Juicer, glass pitcher (to catch juice), instruction manual, cleaning brush, inlet cover, fine screen, coarse screen, open blank, outlet adjusting knob, wood plunger, plastic plunger, strainer, spare fuse.

    Green Power Juicer:
Juicer, glass pitcher (to catch juice), instruction manual, cleaning brush, inlet cover, fine screen, coarse screen, open blank, outlet adjusting knob, wood plunger, plastic plunger, strainer, spare fuse, juice catch tray(for drips), closed blank (for mochi), mochi guide, Pasta Screen, pasta screw and guide, pasta attachment.

    Options
    For either juicer: Fruit attachment
For Green Life, the Mochi Maker and Pasta Maker

Hmmm...can't figure it out, where does the pulp eject from the Green life? And into what?
On the green life and green power machines, the juice comes out of the bottom of the machine, and is caught in the glass measuring cup (holds about 4 cups) that is included with the machine. The pulp comes out of the front of the machine, and you will need to supply a bowl or a plastic bag (Most people use the grocery store bags with handles, and put one handle around the intlet spout to hold it in place) to catch the pulp. Some people put it over the sink, and let the pulp fall into the sink (garbage disposal).

How does a twin gear juicer work and is it better?
The twin screw press basically has two gears that mesh together, similar to gears in a transmission of a car. The produce is put into the machine, and it squeezes the juice out. It extracts a better yield of juice, and preserves the most nutrients. It is the only kind of juicer that will juice wheatgrass as well as other vegetables and some fruits. If you desire to juice mostly fruits, we do not suggest a twin gear juicer, since they do best at juicing vegetables and leafy greens.

After reading, it seems like the Green Life machine is the best all around purchase with the exception of fruits. Is there a machine that answers all the needs of hard and soft fruits and vegetables. If not, will the Green life do an "o.k." job in juicing soft or should I consider purchasing an "additional" unit?
The Norwalk juicer will juice almost anything, its about $2000.00.. (we dont sell that model).. Aside from that, I believe the green life is an excellent choice for an all around machine for juicing mostly leafy greens and other hard veggies. Some people find it does ok with fruit, others don't. I guess it depends on your definition of "ok".

I have sucessfully juiced hard apples (such as fujis), oranges, and watermelon (with rind) in the green life, and it worked ok for me.
(juiced alone- each at one time)

If juicing a blend ie( apple, carrot), put in some apple, then carrot, then apple, and carrot.. which should help it to juice the fruits..

I would suggest starting off with it, and if juices to your satisfaction, stick with it, if not maybe consider another juicer, or better yet, I reccomend blending fruits..

We attempted to make peanut butter using the homogenizing plate and got peanut powder (didn't taste real great either). . . read your FAQ about almonds getting powdered in the Green Life as well. Should we buy roasted peanuts (we had used raw) or did we do something else wrong?
Thats tough.. the problem is that most raw nuts dont contain enough oil. When nuts are roasted, I think it brings out more oil. Try some roasted peanuts, that should work.. if not, take some peanut oil, and add it to the peanut powder (a little at a time), and it will turn into more of a "butter" consistency.

When I juice wheatgrass with a (Green Power or Green Life), I get a lot of foam. How can I avoid this?
You can reduce the foam a number of ways
    1. Dunk the wheatgrass in cold water before juicing it.
    2. Put a carrot or celery, or other veggie through the machine after the wheatgrass.
    3. Drop a few drops of flax oil into the gears before juicing the wheatgrass.
Also try using the fruit attachment and only tighten it halfway. (the new manual has it backwards) Also, try spraying a mist of cold water on the top of the foam helps it to settle down.
